KENYA EYES FIRMS TO BUY REINSURANCE COMPANY

THE Kenyan government has identified six foreign firms to bid for the purchase of state-owned Kenya Reinsurance Corporation, a government official announced here on Wednesday. Finance ministry investment secretary Esther Koimett said in a statement that a total of eight local and international firms had sent in expressions of interest on or before the July 27 deadline, but only six had been selected to proceed to the next phase. “The privatisation is on track,” Koimett said, without giving the names of the selected firms. A complete data room has been set up at the headquarters of the reinsurance company for investors to examine, she said. Established in 1970, Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited is considered one of the leading reinsurance companies in the region, transacting reinsurance business primarily in east and central Africa. – AFP
