A TOTAL of 22 candidates are to be interviewed for 17 vacant judges’ positions in nine divisions this week, the Judicial Service Commission said on Tuesday. The interviews are to take place at the Vineyard Hotel in Claremont, Cape Town, over the next three days. On Tuesday, the JSC is to interview six judges for two vacancies in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein. They are judges Frederik Brand, Thomas Cloete, Jonathan Heher, Franklyn Kroon, Robert Nugent and Brian Southwood. On Wednesday, the commission will consider Judge Frans Kgomo for the post of Northern Cape Judge President, as well as Ellem Francis and Mzochitwayo Ngcamu for positions in the Labour Court, which has three vacancies. Three candidates are to be interviewed for a vacancy in the Pretoria High Court. They are advocates Albert Kruger and Dikgang Moseneke, as well as Clive Pillay. Advocates Andre Jordaan and Mattheus Wessels are the two candidates for a vacancy in the Free State provincial division. On Thursday, the JSC will interview Herbert Msimang and advocates Ashley Binns-Ward and Anton Veldhuizen for three available posts in the Cape provincial division. To be considered for two judges’ posts in the Natal Provincial Division are Atkins Moleko and Ashwin Trikamjee. Advocate Lucas Maree will be interviewed for the Bophuthatswana division, while two candidates have been nominated for the Competition Appeal Court, which has three vacancies.
