TWO babies that were raped in the Northern Cape recently were recovering well at hospitals in the province on Tuesday. Baby Tshepang, who was raped and sodomised allegedly by six men in Upington, was recovering well, said Kimberley Hospital representative Dr Hamid Shabbir. He said the surgeons were waiting for the girl’s wounds to heal before deciding when reconstructive surgery on her pubic area would be performed. Shabbir said that despite her ordeal, baby Tshepang was not afraid of people and described her as a happy, smiling little girl. She was being treated as a ”bit of a celebrity” by the hospital staff who was looking after her. Meanwhile, the two-and-a-half-year-old baby girl who was found abandoned near Port Nolloth in the Northern Cape on Saturday night, was also recovering well in Upington’s Gordonia Hospital.0 A hospital official said the baby could soon be released from hospital. She sustained serious injuries to her vagina when a 17-year-old man allegedly abducted and raped her. He was arrested on Monday. – Sapa
