US authorities announced on Tuesday that they have a suspect in a series of pipe bombs planted in mailboxes in five US states during the past week, news reports said.
Authorities want to question Luke John Helder, who is believed to be driving a grey or black four-door Honda Accord and considered by the FBI to be armed and dangerous. He is wanted in connection with pipebombs planted in mailboxes in the states of Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Texas.
The 17th pipe bomb was found Tuesday in Texas. On Friday, a series of pipe bombs injured six people in Illinois and Iowa. Since then, more cases have appeared in a direction moving west through the country. They were placed with anti-government notes. Authorities have not yet charged Helder (21) with a crime.
The suspect’s father, Cameron Helder, issued an appeal to his son via the media on Tuesday. ”Please don’t hurt anyone else,” he said. ”It’s time to talk.”
The elder Helder said he believed his son was only trying to get attention and was ”not a dangerous person”. ? AP
