Zulu Royals shocked 10-man Ajax Cape Town when they beat them 1-0 in a crunch Castle Premiership encounter played at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
There was no score at the interval.
The winning goal was netted by Jacky Ledwaba who headed in John Maduka’s well-taken corner kick in the 78th minute.
In the 67th minute, Ajax were reduced to 10 men when Shane Poggenpoel was red-carded after exchanging words with referee Lawrence Monnatloko.
However, Ajax still managed to create many scoring opportunities, but Royals’ goalkeeper Gareth Ormshaw denied them on several occasions.
Although Royals managed to collect maximum points, they are still languishing second from bottom on the league log with 18 points from 24 games.
Ajax’s loss has given their closest rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, the upper hand in the race for the title. Chiefs are leading by 51 points from 22 games and Ajax are just behind with 50 from 24 games.
Chiefs have a chance to increase their lead at the top on Monday when they face relegation-threatened Dynamos at Giyani Stadium. — Sapa
