Gentle reminder from taxman

Two days is ample time for people to get their tax returns in order, the South African Revenue Service (Sars) said on Wednesday, in advance of Friday’s deadline.

”Sars offices around the country are also extending their office hours and are going out into the communities to offer extra assistance to taxpayers,” Sars spokesperson Sechaba Nkosi said in a statement.

He asked that taxpayers reciprocate by making use of this extra assistance to get their tax returns in by Friday.

”To date Sars has received more than 1,3-million returns in comparison to last year over the same period when just under 900 000 returns had been received,” Nkosi said.

”People must not forget to bring their IRP5s, medical-aid tax certificates, retirement annuity certificates, IT3(b) [forms] and any other supporting documentation together with their tax returns to substantiate claims,” he said.

”It is in the best interest of the taxpayer for the submissions to be made in time so that the processing of the returns can be done sooner.” — Sapa
