Sarfu deputy president resigns

The South African Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) expressed its regret on Tuesday at the decision by Sarfu deputy president Keith Parkinson to resign.

Parkinson issued a statement on Tuesday indicating that he resigns his positions within Sarfu, SA Rugby and the International Rugby Board with immediate effect.

Parkinson communicated his decision in discussions with Sarfu president Brian van Rooyen and the chairperson of SA Rugby, Dr Theunie Lategan.

In response, Sarfu CEO Mveleli Ncula described Parkinson’s decision as a setback for the game.

”Keith has a lengthy involvement in rugby administration both at national and provincial level and it is sad to see him go. The rugby community has lost a very experienced and knowledgable administrator. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” Ncula said.

In addition to serving as deputy president of Sarfu, Parkinson was also chairperson of the Sarfu finance committee, a member of the board of SA Rugby and chairperson of its remuneration committee. He also chaired the players’ remuneration task team and the rugby Super 12 task team.

Sarfu and SA Rugby will discuss the vacant positions at their next executive committee and board meetings. — Sapa
