Cole’s Arsenal future still in doubt

Ashley Cole’s future at Arsenal is still in doubt after the England left-back, already involved in an approach to Chelsea, refused to commit himself to Arsenal for next season.

”It’s just hard for me to say at the moment,” he said after Arsenal’s FA Cup semifinal victory over Blackburn in Cardiff when asked whether he intends to be at Arsenal for the 2005/06 season.

The Premier League charged Cole on March 23 with a breach of the rules governing approaches by players to clubs.

Chelsea and their manager, Jose Mourinho, were separately charged for their alleged involvement in the ”tapping-up” saga.

Cole was reported to have met Mourinho and Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon at a hotel in London, and the case is being reviewed by an independent disciplinary commission.

The Gunners take on Premiership champions elect Chelsea on Wednesday, but Cole is refusing to allow his own situation to overshadow his preparation for the important fixture.

”Chelsea is going to be a really tough game, but for me it’s just like a normal match,” he told The Daily Mirror. — Sapa-AFP
