JSE-listed integrated media company Moneyweb Holdings and Wag the Dog, publishers of The Media magazine, eMedia and new addition AD Insights, have announced that well-known Marketingweb.co.za will be run as a joint venture in future.
Sandra Gordon, Managing Director of Wag the Dog will take responsibility for driving and directing the project. Moneyweb, which is a focused business information media company, will provide the technical backup and access to its enormous online, radio and newspaper audience.
Marketingweb was launched by Moneyweb four years ago. Its innovative ‘open media” platform and insightful editorial has helped the site build a loyal following of over 20 000 readers. It also produces a weekly emailed newsletter for over 4 000 marketing professionals.
Under Sandra Gordon’s direction the site will be positioned as the de facto source for all marketing industry related information. It will be expanded to provide a one-stop portal for the industry, with the ezine and website content upgraded to reflect the dynamics inherent in the marketing, advertising and communications sectors.
‘Our detailed plans for these changes and additions will be revealed shortly, as will the staffing and new structure,” says Gordon. ‘We are presently conducting in-depth research into what the marketing community wants from an industry portal and with our combined resources and experience feel sure that we will attract a high level of interest. Under the new structure we are able to leverage the brand across both companies.”
Hogg says the deal secures the ideal home for a successful brand which is outside Moneyweb’s core focus: ‘We have given Marketingweb as much support as we’ve been able to, but because we look primarily at business and investments, it has always been something of an outsider in our stable. There is no doubt Sandra and her team at Wag The Dog will make Marketingweb fly.
‘Moneyweb will still be providing the occasional editorial contribution and will provide the obvious benefit of access to our 150 000 online readers. We also provide the unequalled ability to leverage appropriate Marketingweb content across Moneyweb radio and print platforms where we reach well over a million people daily.”
‘I have known Sandra professionally and socially for more than 20 years. There couldn’t be a better driver for Marketingweb. The advertising, media and marketing industry is her passion – plus there’s the unique advantage of her having served as CEO of some serious industry players including Primedia Magazines and Sasani.
