The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) released its 2004/2005 annual report at a function in Johannesburg yesterday. Covering the period from 1 April 2004 to 31 March 2005, key statements included the following:
‘During this period the agency approved of R8,7-million in support to 51 different media projects around the country and earmarked support for up to 15 community radio initiatives to assist in licence applications.
‘[The MDDA] hosted together with other organisations three workshops in Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal on advertising and marketing. These workshops were attended by 160 different media organisations. [The agency further] provided bursaries to 21 different media managers to attend short courses on media management.”
Speaking at the function, chairperson Kanyi Mkonza also focused on progress made since the end of the previous financial year. Mkonza stated that in the two board meetings held since 1 April 2005, R8,4-million in support was approved for an additional 30 media projects.
