Athletics South Africa (ASA) is taking a further step in preparing for the new 2006 season when the National Technical Officials Symposium takes place at the High Performance Centre at the University of Pretoria this weekend.
Following the highly successful National Coaches Symposium recently held in Bloemfontein, the focus has now shifted to the technical officials to ensure that the 2006 season will run smoothly and that officiating at the track meetings will be of the highest standard.
Next year will see a hectic programme of national and international meetings, and ASA wants to ensure that officiating at these meetings is of a professional standard.
Great interest has been shown in the symposium and about 100 delegates from ASA’s provinces as well as the National Technical Officials Council will attend.
As at the coaches symposium, the past year will be reviewed and in-depth discussions will be the order of the day. The performance of technical officials at track meetings will be reviewed and analysed, and proposals for improvement will be put forward.
Attention will also be given to the training and deployment of officials for national and international competitions.
The symposium will be opened by ASA president Leonard Chuene on Saturday and will conclude on Sunday. — Sapa
