Mamelodi Sundowns humiliated Bush Bucks 5-1 in a one-sided Castle Premier Soccer League match played at Loftus on Tuesday night.
Sundowns led 2-0 at the break.
The home team certainly lived up to their motto ”the sky’s the limit”, even without the support of their coach, Angelo Kappa, who is still under suspension. They outplayed Bush Bucks in every department.
Bafana Bafana midfielder Josta Dladla scored the opening goal early in the first half and the home team increased the lead when Brazilian Vincento Princetiano pushed home the second.
In the second half, Clive Barker’s team managed to regroup for a moment and striker Mduduzi Mdladla scored a consolation goal in the 51st minute, easily beating Andre Arendse in the home team’s goal.
But that goal only served to lift Sundowns’ aggression and the final moments of the game produced a hat-trick of goals. First, midfielder Surprise Moriri scored in the 85th minute and then Sundowns were awarded a penalty when Princetiano was brought down in the Bucks’ goal area.
Referee Abdul Ibrahim pointed to the spot without much hesitation and Clement Mazibuko booted home Sundowns’ fourth goal.
As if that was not enough, ”Shakes” Maqoba Ngwenya scored the fifth two minutes from time, his first touch beating a helpless Tamtungu Dikete in Bucks’ goal.
Having won seven games from 11 outings, Sundowns remain in second spot behind Orlando Pirates, who hold a four-point lead, although Sundowns still have a game in hand. Bush Bucks are in 13th spot with just two wins from their 12 games. — Sapa
