Satawu: Employers make improved offer

Talks between the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) and the employer associations in the security industry ended at about 6am on Friday morning, with employers bringing an improved offer to the unions, Satawu said in a statement.

The meeting, conducted under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) was adjourned and Satawu and another union, the Trade and Allied Workers’ Union were given an opportunity to consult with membership before meeting with the employers again on Monday at 10am to report back about the consultations, the statement added.

“Satawu is hopeful that a resolution may be on the horizon, but at this point is unwilling to disclose the full contents of the offer before all members know about it and make recommendations on it,” the statement said.

In a separate statement, the CCMA said: “All parties met yesterday afternoon [Thursday] and negotiated through the night into the early hours of this morning [Friday].

“Despite being exhausted, all parties are positive about the process. Parties will continue discussions over the weekend and will be back at the negotiation table on Monday.” — I-Net Bridge
