Tshwane councillors implicated in fraud scheme

Three members of the Tshwane City Council were among seven people charged with fraud, Pretoria police said on Wednesday.

They were arrested in stages late last month for selling vacant land, belonging to the council, to community members from Mamelodi, Inspector Paul Ramaloko said.

Hezekiah Mpahlele, Jacob Mogashwa, Kwena Molekoa, Joseph Baloi, Johannes Masinga, Andries Mokjoshane and Cornelius Peter were expected to make formal bail applications on Monday, he said.

”Details of the fraud will form part of our investigation.”

Said Ramaloko: ”We are calling on those who have fallen prey [to the scheme] to come forth with any information.”

He said more arrests were expected. — Sapa
