Windscreen washers arrested in Johannesburg

Fifteen windscreen washers, described as ”annoying and irritating”, were arrested at intersections around Johannesburg on Monday, metro police said.

”We have received a lot of complaints about these guys … they are annoying, some people pay but when people don’t want their windows washed, these guys spray soap on their windscreens … it’s very irritating,” said the Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

The arrests were made at the Grayston and William Nicol bridges in Sandton, and at the intersection of Broadway and Marshall roads in Bruma.

Minnaar said the windscreen washers can pay an admission-of-guilt fine of R500 or take their chances before a magistrate.

A further eight hawkers were fined R300 each for selling their wares within five metres of a traffic intersection on Monday. – Sapa
