SA pregnant women aim for world record

The queues for pickles and ice cream are set to be endless when more than 2 000 pregnant women gather in Johannesburg for an attempt at the world record for the largest gathering of pregnant women.

The record attempt, which, if successful, will be recognised by the Guinness World Records book, will be held at the Your Baby Show at Johannesburg’s Coca-Cola Dome on the morning of May 19.

More than 2 000 women have already pre-registered for the event.

Show director Projeni Pather, a mother of two, said: “We wanted to add a new dimension to this year’s show, and I believe we have achieved that through including a historic event.

“Although it was initially quite a daunting task, we have managed to get this world-record attempt sanctified by Guinness World Records as an official world-record attempt and we would love to set a high standard for other countries and cities to follow.”

The show will move on to Durban and Cape Town, where women will try to beat the record set in Johannesburg.
