isiZulu exams get the thumbs up

For the first time grade 12s around the country are writing the same exams for the National Senior Certificate.

Over the next few weeks the Teacher will be catching up with educators to get their feelings on the exams as they happen.

First up is isiZulu Home Language, Paper one.

Phili Nxumalo, grade 12 isiZulu educator at the Marianhill Secondary Independent School in KwaZulu-Natal, says the paper went smoothly.

“Most of the learners said it was fair, although there were naturally a few who complained about it being too difficult,” she said.

“Most of the paper was covered in class during the year and I think the exemplar was sufficient preparation for the learners.”

As this was the first year of outcomes-based education style examinations for grade 12s there is no benchmark for the questionnaires, but Nxumalo says it was of a good standard overall.
