M&G Media Limited, the publishers of the Mail & Guardian newspaper along with its subsidiaries, has announced Peter Vundla as the group’s new chairperson of its board.
Vundla has been a director on the M&G board for nine years and looks forward to the new chapter in the company’s history the decision brings.
“I am particularly excited at the challenge to become chairperson of the Mail & Guardian newspaper, arguably the most pre-eminent cutting-edge investigative newspaper in our country during a period in our democracy when we are grappling with the nature and function of media as both a watchdog and a nation-builder,” Vundla said.
Vundla has previously worked in advertising and has operated as chairperson for several corporates including Alcatel-Lucent SA, and currently operates in that role at AMB Capital and New Seasons Investment Holdings.
“I commit myself to foster, protect and uphold the editorial integrity and independence of this great South African institution,” added Vundla.
The decision has been welcomed by M&G Media’s chief executive Hoosain Karjieker, who singled out Vundla’s unique contribution to the group as an invaluable asset that has enhanced the group’s brand.
Nicholas Dawes, editor-in-chief of the M&G also applauded Vundla’s ascension, commending the new chairperson and his adherence to the fundamentals of journalism.
