Durban art pick: January 6 2012

Not only has artSPACE durban spent the past nine years committed to making excellent contemporary art accessible to Durbanites, it has also been equally dedicated to making it affordable.

Hence the inspired gallery’s annual Affordable Art Show that, in its 2011-2012 incarnation, features original creations by no fewer than 75 respected South African artists — and not a single work is priced above R3?500. On display and for sale is everything from oil paintings to photography, ceramics, sculptures, prints, photographs and more. When you buy a work it is yours to take home straightaway, which means no waiting until the exhibition is over.
