DESIGN PARK
The Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) seeks a service provider to develop a business case for the establishment of a Design Park, which will be part of The Fringe (East City Design Initiative).
The Fringe initiative is based on the clustering approach and is geared towards developing and growing the Design Industries as a key enabler for the manufacturing industries and its value chains. The cluster model has shown that co-location of research and innovation activity with the Design industries are essential for driving forward the various related sectors’ abilities to develop and to compete economically and to grow its local work force.
The vision of the Design Park is to contribute to design, innovation and entrepreneurship within the Western Cape through partnerships with industry, government, other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and community stakeholders. It is intended that the Design Park will compromise of three key interlinked components: • Centre of Skills Excellence in Design and Informatics through expanded facilities which include integrated learning and through research in conjunction with external partnerships • Facilities and services to enhance the triple helix and support innovation linkages between academia and businesses and to increase commercialised innovation and sustainable, competitiveness businesses • Design Museum/Exhibition and showcase design and innovation.
High quality expertise and experience required in: • Skills development • The design industries • Project management experience in the development of business cases or feasibility studies of infrastructure projects • Industry value chains.
Bids will be evaluated in terms of applicable procurement legislation, on technical, BEE and price considerations, and may include interviews with shortlisted biddersbefore selection.
