The University of the Free State (UFS) has obtained a further court interdict to maintain calm on the main campus in Bloemfontein and on the Vista campus, also in the city, a UFS spokesperson said on Friday.
Spokesperson Anton Fischer said the interdict was obtained because a number of outside organisations were planning to hold mass demonstrations on the two campuses.
He said since the publicising of the Reitz video, the situation on the Bloemfontein campus had remained tense with sporadic incidents of disruptions and intimidation.
”The campus is also in a period where students are writing tests and need to prepare for these tests,” he said in a statement.
Fisher said the university management was of the view that mass protests on the campuses under the current circumstances would worsen the situation.
”We feel that it is important for our students to continue their academic work and to deal with the issue of the video in a constructive environment.”
The new court interdict was supplementary to the one obtained by the UFS on February 21.
The interdict prohibits gatherings, demonstrations, picketing, the holding of meetings, protest marches by students, staff or outside persons. — Sapa
