ROAD DEATHS RISE TO 137

THE December death toll on South African roads has risen to 137 in 94 accidents.

According to the government’s road safety monitoring unit, Arrive Alive, the North West province leads the country with 35 deaths, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 21 and the Free State with 16.

The Eastern Cape has recorded 15 fatalities, Gauteng 14, Mpumalanga 12, the Western Cape 10, the Nortrhern Cape eight and the Nortrhern Province six.

According to Arrive Alive mainly drivers and passengers have been killed in the North West province; and KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape reported the most pedestrian fatalities.
