Swallows squeak home

Moroka Swallows laboured against the relatively inexperienced Dynamos to register a narrow 1-0 win in a Castle Premiership match at the Rand Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Striker Shaun Parmell blasted home a beauty in the 53rd minute.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker was fed a pass by Alfred Phiri, who has been a tower of strength for Swallows since joining them from Ajax Cape Town

However, Dynamos, who defended as if their lives depended on it, should have scored in the 43rd minute. Sandile Ndlovu drew Swallows ‘keeper Greg Etafia off his line, dribbled past him and layed off to Mpho Maleka who, unbelievably, shot wide.

Swallows, although dominating, also lacked composure inside the box and this showed when they failed to convert five corner kicks in the first half.

The home side began playing with purpose after the introduction of Mark McVeigh in the second half. They raided Dynamos’ backyard and their mounting attacks paid dividends when Parmell netted the all important goal.

It was the second victory for Swallows from four matches and the three points now mean they are in third position on the log. The general feeling among their fans is that the side needs to change their approach before the SAA Supa 8 semifinal against the high-flying Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Sunday.
