Bush Bucks collected maximum points when they beat Jomo Cosmos 1-0 in a closely contested Castle Premier Soccer League relegation battle on Saturday evening.
There was no score at half-time
The winning goal came in the 66th minute when Agent Sawu scored from a well-taken free kick.
After a ding-dong first half, Bucks stepped up a gear in the second stanza, taking the game to Cosmos.
Some dangerous-looking charges from Mhlonishwa Mbambo and Sawu were easily dealt with by Cosmos’s second-choice goalkeeper, David Fortuin.
Cosmos striker Nkosinathi Ntleko looked to have Bucks goalkeeper Tampungu Dikete beaten in the 50th minute but he failed to convert.
Former Pirates midfielder/striker Sibusiso Mazibuko took it upon himself to terrorise the Cosmos defence with good runs but he was unable to penetrate the goal.
Mazibuko, however, did come close to opening the scoring in the 64th minute with a long range shot but Fortuin was equal to the task.
Two minutes later, Sawu scored the goal that separated the two teams.
Bucks’ Wellington Sambu had an opportunity to double the score in the 75th minute but his shot, with Cosmos keeper well beaten, hit the upright. – Sapa
