South Africa’s labour department has warned employers in the northern Free State to ”brace themselves” for intensive workplace inspections to check compliance with the country’s labour laws.
Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlala’s new spokesperson, Zolisa Sigabi, said on Thursday the blitz was sheduled from January 15 to January 18. It would be held in Heilbron in the Sasolburg area.
Compliance of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, unemployment insurance, employment equity, compensation for occupational injuries and diseases as well as compliance with the Occupational Heath and Safety Act would be checked.
Sectors which would be targeted for inspections would include private security, contract cleaning, wholesale and retail, manufacturing and construction ”and all other sectors where the Acts apply expect for the farming sector”. – I-Net Bridge
