Ajax too strong for Arrows

The 2-0 defeat of Lamontville Golden Arrows by Ajax Cape Town in their Premier Soccer League (PSL) encounter on Wednesday at Chatsworth Stadium has not dampened the team spirit.

In fact, it has steered them to reinforce the squad if they are to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

The visitors led 2-0 at the half-time interval.

Manqoba Mqhithi, Arrows assistant coach, said that it was too early to talk about relegation.

”We are still going to win more games.”

Ajax’s win takes them to eighth spot in the PSL log.

Thembikosi Fanteni opened the scoring for the visitors in the 26th minute when he beat advancing Arrows goalkeeper David Phiri.

Arrows were forced to replace their regular goalkeeper, Nkosana Maseko, in the 10th minute of the game after Maseko complained of chest pains.

Granwald Scott scored the second goal in the 39th minute.

In the second half, the home team attacked hard but failed to capitalise on the visitors’ mistakes.

The main culprits were Bheka Phakati and Mabhuti Khanyeza, who missed three clear goals.

Young Nazir Allie from Ajax was voted man of the match for the hard yards he made throughout the game. — Sapa
