British soldier killed in Afghanistan was from SA

The 50th British soldier to die in Afghanistan was a South African who grew up in the Western Cape.

Ross Clark (25) was also a former head boy of Somerset West Private School.

Stellenbosch University student representative council spokesperson WJ le Roux said that Lance Bombardier Clark was with the 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery.

”He was an immensely popular pupil and gifted athlete, who amongst others was awarded provincial colours in mountain biking,” read a statement from Le Roux.

”He found his true calling in the British army, where he was awarded the honour of ‘best new recruit’ and was a member of the British special forces.”
