Three to appear in court over Taliep Petersen murder

Three suspects will appear in court on Thursday in connection with the murder of Cape Town theatre personality Taliep Petersen, police said.

Superintendent Billy Jones said a third suspect was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after hours of being held for questioning.

The suspect is a 34-year-old man from the Athlone area of Cape Town.

Jones said more arrests were possible in the next few days.

On Monday night two people, a 45-year-old woman from Athlone and a 41-year-old man from Strandfontein, were arrested in connection with the murder.

Petersen was shot dead at his home in Grasmere Street in Athlone on December 16 last year.

Media earlier reported that investigators questioned Petersen’s wife, Najwa, and stepson, Achmat Gameldien. Police at the time said the questioning was ”normal procedure.” — Sapa
