Soweto petrol attendant killed by customers

A Soweto petrol attendant was killed on Sunday by customers who refused to pay for their petrol, Gauteng police said.

Inspector Kay Makhubela said the employee at an Engen garage in Zola North was shot four times and stabbed on Sunday morning.

Customers in a red car had visited the garage earlier and bought petrol but left without paying, following an altercation with the attendant.

As the attendant was going home after work, the occupants of the red car were waiting for him. They shot and stabbed him.

Police are searching for the killers.

Makhubela also said police arrested 137 people at roadblocks in various parts of Soweto on Saturday.

In Moroka, 42 people were arrested and in Protea Glen 34. In Naledi and Jabulani, 61 people were arrested for crimes ranging from murder to malicious damage to property, assault, and possession of unlicensed firearms.

A man arrested for murder at Moroka was also a wanted suspect in a Krugersdorp murder case, Makhubela said. — Sapa
