Alleged Zuma victim: ‘I was shit scared’

The woman accusing Jacob Zuma of raping her told the Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday that she became ”shit scared” when she realised what was about to happen.

Zuma’s lawyer Kemp J Kemp had asked her why she did not open her eyes to see what he was doing when he came into her guest room and started massaging her.

She replied: ”When he turned me around [onto her back] and started to massage my shoulders, even before I opened my eyes, I started to feel uncomfortable, really uncomfortable and I started exploring the possibility that this was going in the direction that I didn’t want it to go.

”Even though I started to think that this was where it was going, I didn’t want to believe it.

”I started at that point to be really shit scared.”

Kemp asked: ”You then thought the best policy was just to keep your eyes closed?”

She replied: ”I am not sure how much thought I put into keeping my eyes closed.”

She said that he massaged her for a few seconds and then she opened her eyes and saw him naked on her bed, with his knees resting on either side of her legs.

He allegedly pulled her hands from the side of her body and held them together and he pushed her left leg with his knees so that her legs would be open.

Kemp put it to her that she weighed 85kg, was 31-years-old and about 1,60m tall compared with Zuma’s weight of about 90kg and his age of 63.

”Are you saying that he managed to hold both your hands with one hand?”

She replied: ”Yes, he did.”

When Kemp asked if she had tried to move her hands, she said she had not.

”I just didn’t move, I froze at some point.”

Kemp said: ”Let me understand, are you saying you were stiff with fear, or completely relaxed or compliant?”

She answered: ”I was shit scared and I didn’t move.”

Asked whether she had felt any pain, she replied that what she had felt was more like discomfort.

She said the alleged incident ”couldn’t have been more than ten minutes”. – Sapa
