State-owned finance group the IDC has offered part of its 85% stake in phosphate producer Foskor to black investors, it said on Friday.
The Industrial Development Corporation aims to develop a vibrant entrepreneurial junior mining sector in South Africa and the rest of the continent.
The Department of Home Affairs said on Wednesday it planned to establish shelters for foreigners who have fled xenophobic attacks over the last two weeks. The BBC reported on Wednesday that seven ”refugee camps” would be set up. By Monday night there were an estimated 17 000 displaced foreigners left in Johannesburg.

Japanese engineering and heavy machinery maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is reportedly considering a ¥10-billion (R746,5-million) investment in South Africa’s Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR). The investment would buy the Japanese company a stake of about 10% in PBMR.
Nationwide Airlines has been placed under provisional liquidation, an attorney for the company said on Wednesday. "We applied yesterday [Tuesday] at 3pm and were placed under provisional liquidation," said Haroon Maher. On Tuesday passengers were stranded when the airline announced that it had ceased operations due to cash-flow problems.
South Africa’s advanced nuclear reactor technology programme will include United States-based Westinghouse Electric as a partner and a new shareholders’ contract is expected by the end of the month, an official said on Tuesday. South Africa is currently testing elements of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor and wants to build 24 to 30 reactors for its own energy needs.

International nuclear-power technology company Westinghouse Electric on Monday announced that it had acquired South African company IST Nuclear for an undisclosed amount. Westinghouse launched its newly acquired South African operation under the name Westinghouse Electric South Africa.
The Competition Commission has recommended the prohibition of a merger between Arcelor Mittal and Duferco Steel Processing. The merger would ”substantially prevent or lessen competition”, the commission said in a statement on Thursday.

South African pay-TV consumers will soon have a choice between many new broadcast channels — this after the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa awarded pay-TV licences to four new players during a press briefing in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The companies granted licences were Telkom Media, E-Sat, On Digital Media and Walking on Water.
