The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s student representative council has condemned the burning of the law library at Howard College on Tuesday.
Dressed in black, the students carried placards which declared their demands: “Stop rape”, “No to police abuse against women” and “My body my choice”.
Students had initially protested an 8% fee increase but shifted their focus when it was reported that a student had been raped by a police officer.
A Coffee shop at the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard campus in Durban was burned down last night allegedly by protesting students.
Despite glowing accounts of the new VC at his inauguration, Albert van Jaarsveld’s address failed to offer real solutions to students’ problems.
It is not surprising that four students faced disciplinary charges for speaking out about their university’s problems, says the SA Students’ Congress.
