The faction is opposed to those who joined from other parties, such as Floyd Shivambu, assuming strategic leadership positions in uMkhonto weSizwe party
The ANC Youth League president said he would rather EFF leader Julius Malema returned to the ANC than Shivambu, who he dismissed as having no support base
South Africa is in crisis and the intra-elite battles about how to move forward do not offer any viable path towards a just way resolution
Sources said that despite Vuyo Zungula being a member of the African Transformation Movement’s national executive committee, he was not at the meeting that resolved to remove him as party president
Although it no longer has an outright majority, and faces new challenges, the party has not lost its belief in democracy and the rule of law
Floyd Shivambu’s removal as secretary general points to the real issue – proximity to power
