Avhasei Messie Raphalalani, 29, is a transformative force in South African education. As acting departmental head at Mphagane Primary School in Limpopo, her leadership style fuses rigour with empathy, cultivating a positive and inclusive school culture. Recognised nationally, she was a 2025 National Teaching Awards nominee and received accolades from Inside Education as Most Dedicated Educator and Excellence Educator. Avhasei led her school to victory in the Rama Good Breakfast Nutrition Project. She also initiated an after-hours ICT training programme, using insights from her Wits University studies to equip colleagues with digital skills. She founded StopTheSpot Youth Organisation, which delivers mental health education, gender-based violence prevention and life skills support in rural communities. She serves as an executive member of the Tshipako Royal Council and is an active member of the Black Management Forum. Currently pursuing a master’s degree in guidance and counselling, with academic credentials from the University of Venda and Unisa, Avhasei is an inspiring example of purpose- driven leadership. Her work restores dignity to education and empowers the next generation to dream boldly.
